Love-All and Loaded: My Week on the Courts, Darling
Well, where do I even begin. This week was simply *everything* — and I mean that in the most exhausting, exhilarating, sun-drenched way possible. Monday morning found Bunny and me at Phipps Ocean Park before the heat became absolutely unconscionable, and I have to tell you, the courts were buzzing with more drama than a Worth Avenue trunk show in season. Everyone was whispering about a certain *unnamed* member at The Bath and Tennis who has apparently been sandbagging her rating for months. I cannot confirm. I will not confirm. But Bunny gave me *the look* across the net, and darlings, we both know exactly what that means.
Carlos had me doing lateral band work and split-step drills at six-thirty Tuesday, which I endured only because Geoffrey had smuggled home the most divine bottle of Whispering Angel the night before and my legs felt approximately like warm brie. My new JOOLA Ben Johns Hyperion paddle arrived from Amazon midweek — I had been borrowing Bunny's spare and that situation was simply not sustainable for either of our friendships. The JOOLA is a revelation, truly. Responsive, forgiving on my backhand, and it photographs beautifully, which I refuse to pretend does not matter.

Dinks, Drinks, and Derek Nearly Took Out a Ball Machine (Again)
Well darlings, I honestly cannot believe how fast this week flew by, but when every single day involves sunshine, pickleball, and at least one spectacular meal, time just does its own glorious thing here in Naples.
Monday kicked off with an early session at Pelican Bay with my coach Thomas, and I honestly cannot say enough about what he is doing for my third shot drop. He had me drilling it for a solid forty-five minutes until my arm was begging for mercy, and I will tell you right now that the repetition is finally clicking. I wore my Coastal Serve Tank from Pickleball Florida USA paired with my Alo Airlift leggings and I felt like an actual athlete, which is saying something for a woman who spent most of her forties thinking tennis was her whole personality. Rosie watched from the car with her nose pressed against the window the entire time, completely unbothered and slightly judgmental.

Kenny Lost To A 70-Year-Old Woman And I Have No Notes
Honey, let me tell you about the week I just had because if I don't write it down I'm going to explode and Marge next door will think something is wrong and come over with her judgmental casserole and her opinions about my backhand.
Listen, Monday started at Knudson Courts and Frank was already gone before I finished my coffee because Frank does not play pickleball at 7:01, he plays at 7:00, and if you are not there at 6:58 you are dead to him. I grabbed my Coastal Hydration Bottle from Pickleball Florida USA because I have learned that a Florida morning in August will absolutely try to kill you, and that bottle keeps my water cold through three rounds of open play and half a golf cart ride home. I pulled out of the driveway and Marge was already standing on her porch in her robe just watching me leave like she was documenting evidence for a trial.

I Came for the Dinks, I Stayed for the Drama (And the Arancini)
Tuesday morning at Pompano Park and here is the thing — I showed up with a slightly bruised ego from last week, a fresh grip tape job, and approximately zero chill. The Tuesday crew was all there, eight of us orbiting the courts like we own the place, which honestly at this point we kind of do. Diane, my doubles partner and the steadiest human being alive, took one look at my face and said *someone had a week.* She is not wrong. She is never wrong. This is why I keep her.
Gabi, who is entirely responsible for ruining my previously peaceful life by introducing me to this sport, showed up twenty minutes late with iced coffee and zero apology, laughing before she even hit the court. That woman plays pickleball like she is personally offended by the ball and I mean that as the highest compliment. Marco came Saturday, reluctant as always, got three aces past me in warmup, and then had the audacity to shrug. An architect. Shrugging. At me. In my own sport.
